Trove reports on Skift MegaTrends event

The following is a blog by Trove Associate Olivia Silverman-Franklin.

Trove Associate Olivia Silverman-Franklin attended the 2022 Skift Megatrends event last week. The event, hosted by Skift, is the travel news outlet’s annual report symposium forecasting top trends that will define the travel industry for 2022.

While the tourism industry is still applying national and international standards on “safe travel” and COVID health standards, the question is: is uncertainty the new certainty?

The 2022 Skift Megatrends Report has reported some insightful trends that forecast positive tourism development opportunities and travel prospects to look forward to in the new year. As we are heading into our third year of living with COVID, many industries have taken opportunities to innovate and adapt. Tourism and travel especially took one of the hardest hits, but we have also seen vast and steady growth in demand for travel. Here are a few of the trends that Skift is reporting:

● Travelers want to reduce their carbon footprint and destinations should be able to provide eco-tourism experiences and to continue to invest in sustainability.

● The diversification of financial options for travel, like insurance, pay later options, and the ease of accessibility is making travel more feasible.

● Upskilling labor has immense potential for companies to help their employees garner new education in their field and advance in their careers.

● Communities hold the power to develop localized experiences for many destinations and will no longer just be a “backdrop.”  Travelers are looking for those one of a kind experiences only unique to the places they visit.

● Corporate travel at the core of a business may be a thing of the past and are solely in the hands of companies CFO’s. As Trove has researched in the past, though, this is separate than meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) travel, which sees great potential in 2022-2023.

In the era of COVID, it seems these new changes were brought about to adapt to this new global world we now live in. Skift was intuitive with their analysis and we are incredibly optimistic about this upcoming year.
